Our businesses systems are no different than our family systems, in that they are generated and driven by survival mechanisms that most likely operate from a fear-based paradigm. They have been cultivated through generations of personal relationships based on cultural, religious,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gender and racial factors. Too often wisdom and common sense do not enter into the equation when it comes to how a business or family is operating. We take for granted and assume intelligence and maturity would be foundational to choosing directors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], managers and leaders, but trust me, and you may know from your own experience,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], most people running businesses, departments and corporations function, to some degree, from the emotional intelligence of an adolescent. It makes sense that you are going to think you are smarter than your boss; in some ways you probably are; in other ways you probably aren’t.

If you go above Harry’s head to his boss, Glenda, you might be not only aggravate Harry but also be making it clear to Glenda that she may have made a choice that is creating negative consequences far beyond any expectations. She’s already regretting her choice and knows there’s nothing she can do.
You and a colleague, Harry are up for a promotion. You know you are the better person for the job,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but Harry got the position. He’s pompous,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], arrogant and doesn’t have the leadership skills that inspire you to generate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], anything. You scratch your head in disbelief that he was chosen over you.
Do you stay or do you go? Do you ask to get transferred? Do you stay and suck it up, because you need the job? Do you try to go around Harry, or do you do what you do best and ignore what Harry wants from you?
There are a lot of Harry’s and Harriets in the business world. As an administrative assistant, manager or whatever your position, you know you are smarter than your boss. You deserve his salary and every perk that goes along with his position, because you are working your butt off and he’s the one that is looking good! AAARRRGGHH!
Part of you, perhaps wants to sabotage Harry’s efforts and do whatever you can to expose him for the inadequate, incompetent individual that you see him to be; however, that goes against your integrity, and you may end up looking bad and feeling worse in the end.
My job as a transformational coach is not to fix, heal or convert clients, so they’ll have the answers to problems that they face. My job is to be a thinking partner, empowering clients to unravel all of the complexities that are bringing him or her to this dilemma and this choice-point.
This scenario is not uncommon. Probably 30% of my business clients are struggling with at least one particular individual that is a thorn in their side. They question their own sanity and the sanity of those who put the Harrys of the world in those positions. What do you do?
Notice the Pattern
What is it you are here to learn that has Harry be in your life, in this time, in this way?
By the way, some of the Harry’s of the world are my clients too. Given an opportunity to look at what has them choose to choose to be how they be, they, too,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], willingly shift in support of a larger,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], more fulfilling outcome. Yey for us all!
The trick is to notice this pattern of operating. When you’re feeling smarter than – what’s the quality of the experience? Are you feeling righteous and arrogant,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], contemptuous and condescending? Do you feel frustrated and discouraged? What actions are you likely to take from righteous, condescending, frustrated and discouraged? What do you do to compensate for feeling this way? How do you avoid, distract,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ignore or deny your own part in this dysfunctional process? By the way, we are all participating in having the Harry’s of the world be where they are.
It’s a dilemma.
The questions funnel down to just one:
Answer this question and you’ll understand what it is you need to shift in order to facilitate the learning. I guarantee that while doing what’s required in order to make the shift, you’ll notice that Harry will either change or go away! It’s fascinating to observe what changes within our environment once we get our part in maintaining it as it has been.
For some reason, even though the whole office knows of Harry’s incompetence, no one seems to take action. He’s that one rotten apple that spoils the whole barrel.

When a negative scenario plays itself out in your mind, notice how it appears. Does the scene appear in black and white, or is it in color? Is it near or far? Does it seem to be on a screen, or is it three dimensional? Are there voices? Are they threatening? Humiliating? How do you appear in the scene--are you large, or small? Do you seem powerful? Or weak?
Now, replace the visualizations that you don’t want with visualizations that you do want. Imagine scenes of yourself being happy, relaxed and confident. See yourself learning easily,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], understanding deeply, getting excellent marks on your tests.
Or do you convince yourself that learning is hard, and that you’re not very good at learning? Learning is harder when you lack confidence. You can use visualization to improve your ability to learn easily.
Feel that you really understand the subject matter and that you absolutely love learning more about it. Pretend to yourself that it is one of your favorite subjects to learn about.
Strongly feel within yourself the satisfaction, confidence, and pride you would have. See it, feel it, right now, in the present, as a part of you.
If you want to become a good student, it’s important to have confidence in yourself as a learner. It’s important to believe that you actually like learning, and that you really enjoy the topic you are studying.

Successful visualization essentially means that you are able to pretend to yourself that you are already performing successfully the skill you want to learn.
Or just close your eyes and feel within yourself how much you enjoy this subject, and how much you enjoy how smart you are.
Once you are familiar with the details of your negative imaginings, become the director of your own inner movie. If you are seeing a negative experience in color, change it to black and white,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or make it transparent. If the negative image is close, make it go far away.
When you have imagined yourself in a scene that fills you with positive confidence,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you can view it on a screen, or imagine yourself right in the middle of the scene, taking place all around you. Intensify the colors, and your positive feelings.
Take a few messages to picture yourself as a learner. Take note of what you see in your mind.
When you picture yourself learning poorly, you program your mind for more learning failures. This is what you expect, so it becomes more likely that you will achieve it.
Anytime you have a few minutes, recreate these positive imagined scenes. Do this as many times a day as you can, until you always think of yourself as a smart, capable learner.
When visualizing, some people see still images, as in a photograph,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while others see live action all around them. For some people, the images are two-dimensional and faint,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while for others, the images are three dimensional and solid. For different people the images may appear as black and white,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], transparent, or colored.
Your mind more easily absorbs positive messages when you are in a deeply relaxed state of body and mind. To achieve this state, sit or lie comfortably in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Notice your breathing.

If you have been reliving an unpleasant scene as if you are actually participating in it with the action all around you, change it so it takes place on a screen that you are viewing from a distance. That way it will have less emotional impact on you. Bleach out the colors, or turn them to black and white. Turn down the sound. Then make the screen smaller and mentally whoosh it away.
If you are visualizing either past or future scenarios in a way that drains away your self- confidence, you can use special techniques derived from Neuro-Linguistic Programming that will lessen their hold on you.

To change your messages to yourself about what kind of student you are, you will have to change your inner movie of yourself as a learner, and substitute new messages for yourself saying that learning is easy and fun for you.
What should you do if you don’t actually have confidence in yourself as a learner, or if you are convinced that you’ll never understand the topic you are studying? Fortunately you can learn to change your opinion of yourself and what you are learning by a technique called visualization.
Relax your body and focus your attention on your breath. Start to breathe freely and deeply, in a relaxed manner. You can also use different meditation techniques to get your mind into a more relaxed state where it will be easier to accept a new, positive message.
If the negative image is three-dimensional, make it two-dimensional. If there are voices you don’t want to hear,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], make them quiet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or turn them into funny cartoon voices that sound silly.

“Baby Steps” Manifesting Exercise
Learning to manifest our intentions in the beginning takes time, patience, and practice.
Often times,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], people need to start out small with their intentions to really get a feel for the mechanics involved and to verify their results. For many, manifesting a million dollars in ninety days may not be a realistic creation. Certainly it can be done though. In the movie, What About Bob?, Bill Murray played a neurotic, paranoid and extremely phobic patient. Bill Murray, “Bob,” is instructed by his psychiatrist,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], played by Richard Dreyfuss, to start out small using “Baby Steps” to overcome his problems.
To better understand the process of using out intent to manifest, I believe it is not only important to use the process on scenarios that we as humans all experience – it is also very entertaining.
Four common scenarios are traffic lights,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], parking spaces, check-out lines, and crowds.
As you begin to manifest these common, minor scenarios, when our purpose and intent with a feeling behind it are in alignment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], manifesting is taking place right before our eyes. If we have the power within us to part crowds, open lines and spaces, imagine what we can do with out health, diseases, relationships and finances.
1. State your purpose of intention: green lights, no lines, parking space, or parting crowds for example.
2. Know your starting place (point A). Your starting place is where you are in the moment i.e. in your car, entering a store, your seat as you leave a concert or sporting event.
3. Know your ending place (point B), usually a final destination, be it a parking spot, check-out line, or exit door.
4. Create and build a feeling of what it feels like to achieve your purpose. Most commonly the feelings are joy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], elation or a sense of accomplishment. If you are having trouble with those feelings then think of a time in your life when you experienced those feelings before and transfer those feelings to the situation at hand.
5. Combine your purpose, intent,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and feeling to move from point A to point B realizing there are infinite possibilities to get from point A to point B. Each time you manifest one of your intentions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], pat your self on the back and give gratitude and appreciation above to your Creator for being able to tap into the infinite wonders of the universe and manifest your reality.

As a teenager, I stumbled upon manifesting my way through crowds before I even consciously knew what I was doing. It is always a mad rush to get out of stadiums and arenas after concerts and sporting events. People tend to meander through the crowds like herds of cattle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], starting,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], stopping, and bumping into each other on their way to the exits. This always seemed to occur with me when I was with my family or a large group of friends. On two or three occasions, I would either be by myself or my sister when I stumbled upon what was really going on in my little corner of the universe.
On a couple of occasions my sister and I had somewhere we had to be after a basketball game. We had a commitment as well as a timeline to be somewhere else following the game. My purpose was to move as quickly and safely as possible to get out of the sporting arena. After the game we got out of our seats and headed for the corridor. I was on a mission from point A (my seat) to point B (the exit). As we merged with the crowd, I noticed something interesting taking place. Instead of getting caught up in the congested crowd, people unconsciously moved out of our way as we moved effortlessly weaving in and out of the crowd exiting the building in record time. After a few more instances when this phenomenon occurred,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I realized that when I had a specific purpose with a focused intention accompanied by a feeling of accomplishment as I made my way through the crowds it worked like a charm every time. However if my mind was elsewhere and there was no purpose or feeling behind my intention, I would get caught up in the crowd and congestion.
Green Lights and Parking Spaces
Two other fun scenarios are manifesting the open parking space closest to the store and hitting all green lights in traffic. My wife and several other friends frequently manifest the parking spot closest to the store. One of my patients calls upon her angels to open up a space close to the store with great success.
Moving through traffic hitting every red light can be frustrating, but on the flip side, red lights can help us learn patience. To manifest green lights I focus my intent on green lights. Each time I proceed through a green light I build the feeling of joy and/or accomplishment as I proceed to the next green light. Pretty soon I am moving through each green light with a sense of joy and mere accomplishment. However, if I fumble in my car with the radio or am chatting with passengers then I lose focus and again, nothing but red lights.

In addition to following my instruction to breathe mindfully, she decided to forgo the paper until later. Eliza, a self-employed entrepreneur and mom, had been telling her friends that she was working with a weight loss coach and had been losing a few pounds. She scoffed at her friends on a weekend away when out came a cake and they told her, "you can't have any, you're on a weight loss program, right?"
My suspicion that a weight loss odyssey would take me through deep waters ended up being proving correct. Every lesson that helped me sculpt away the excess around my waist, unveiling the flat belly that had been waiting for me underneath all along, had a distinct parallel in terms of fashioning a life for myself, which was true and authentic to who I am.
